How FIFO works
Reward points are redeemed in the order they were earned — the oldest points are drawn down first. When an employee redeems, Empuls walks back through their earning history and attributes the redeemed amount to the earliest source(s) still available. A single redemption can draw from more than one source. When it does, the report lists every source it drew from (comma-separated) in the transaction details. Example — an employee’s ledger:
The redemptions on 12 Jun draw from the oldest earnings first (the Spot Award), then roll into the next source (Kudos) once earlier balances are exhausted — so each debit is traced back to the award(s) that funded it.

FAQs
How is a redemption traced to a specific award?
How is a redemption traced to a specific award?
Empuls applies FIFO — it draws down the employee’s oldest earned points first and attributes the redeemed amount to those source awards. The source award(s) appear in the Transaction Details column of the redemption row.
Why does one redemption list two awards in Transaction Details?
Why does one redemption list two awards in Transaction Details?
Because the redemption drew from more than one source. When a redemption is larger than the oldest award’s remaining balance, FIFO rolls into the next award, and the report lists every source it drew from.
What's the difference between Redemption and Cash Redemption?
What's the difference between Redemption and Cash Redemption?
Both are debits. Redemption covers points spent in the rewards marketplace, while Cash Redemption covers points taken out as cash. Both are traced back to their source award via FIFO, and together they replace the need for a separate “nature of redemption” field.
