The Empuls Multi-Benefits Card is a single physical prepaid card that carries several benefit wallets — Meal & Grocery, Fuel & Car running, Telecom & Internet, Books & Periodicals, Gift, Learning & Development, and any other wallet your organisation enables. Your employer loads each wallet, and you spend directly at eligible merchants. Because the money stays inside the benefit framework, it is not taxed as salary — which is how the card raises your take-home value without your employer raising your CTC. The card runs on the Visa network, is issued by Transcorp International Limited (an RBI-authorised prepaid issuer), and is valid for 5 years. If your organisation adds a new benefit category later, it is added to your existing card — you will not be issued a new one.
Your employer chooses which wallets to enable and how much to allocate to each. If a wallet isn’t visible in the app, it isn’t part of your programme. You cannot add funds to the card yourself.

Your wallets and where they work

Each wallet is locked to a set of Merchant Category Codes (MCCs), so it only works at merchants registered under those categories. If the merchant’s category doesn’t match the wallet, the transaction is declined rather than falling back to another wallet.

Activate your card

Before you begin

  • Your physical card kit, which arrives by courier. The URN number is printed on the envelope.
  • Your Aadhaar number.
  • Your physical PAN card.
  • A DigiLocker account.
A physical PAN card is mandated by RBI for activating a prepaid instrument. e-PAN cards are not accepted for this process.
1

Open the activation flow

In the Empuls app, open the card activation prompt on the home screen — for example the Activate your card button on your card banner.

2

Link your card

Enter the URN number printed on top of the envelope you received, plus the last 4 digits of the card, then tap Verify.

3

Complete Video KYC

Complete Video KYC (V-CIP) with your Aadhaar number, physical PAN card and DigiLocker account ready. This is a consent-based audio-visual verification recognised by the RBI, and it is what moves your card to full-KYC status.
4

Set your PIN

Set your card PIN on the secure page. Your card is now ready to use.
You get one free Video KYC. Any additional Video KYC may attract a nominal charge, which your employer may bear depending on their policy.
Contactless and e-commerce payments are switched off by default. Turn them on in card controls before you tap on a POS terminal or try to pay in a food or quick-commerce app.

Your card home

Your card home shows your total Multi-Benefits wallet balance, each wallet with its own balance, your monthly spend, and recent transactions.

Track your spends

1

Open your transactions

On card home, tap the wallet section or View All beside recent transactions. Transactions are listed most recent first.
2

Open a transaction

Tap any transaction for its detail view — the merchant, amount, date, which wallet it was paid from, the card used, and the transaction IDs.

3

Download a statement

Download a balance-statement PDF from the app whenever you need one.
To dispute a transaction, tap Raise dispute on its detail view, or use Contact Us on card home. Have the date, amount and merchant name ready.

Control limits and payment modes

Open Card controls from the Manage card menu.

  • POS transactions — payments at point-of-sale terminals in shops.
  • Online / E-commerce — payments on websites and apps.
  • Contactless Payments — tap-to-pay at contactless-enabled terminals.
  • Transaction limits — daily and per-transaction caps for POS and online. Adjust and confirm.
POS is enabled by default. Online and contactless are not — turn them on before you need them.

Lock, unlock, block and replace

Lock or unlock — always free

From Manage card, tap Lock card and confirm. While locked, every transaction is declined, but your balance and history are untouched. Tap Unlock card on the same screen to re-enable it.
Frequent lock and unlock actions may be rate-limited.

Block the card permanently

From Manage card, tap Block card. A warning explains this is permanent and cannot be undone. Once blocked, the card cannot be used, though your balance and history stay visible.

Request a replacement

After blocking, card home shows Submit Card Replacement as the primary action. Tap it to request a new card.
A replacement fee applies only when a card is blocked and replaced — locking and unlocking is always free. A replacement also attracts new courier charges; whether you or your employer pays is set by your organisation’s benefits policy.Your balance and transaction history carry over to the replacement, and you do not need to redo KYC.If the card is closed outright rather than replaced, any remaining balance is paid out to your bank account.
If your card is lost or stolen, block it from the app immediately to prevent unauthorised use, then submit a replacement request. Never share your card number, PIN or OTP with anyone — including anyone claiming to represent your employer, Empuls or Transcorp.

What happens to unused balance

The rule differs by wallet.
  • Meal & Grocery never expires. It carries forward automatically into the next financial year and stays tax-exempt.
  • Fuel & Car running, and every other wallet: any unspent balance becomes taxable once the financial year ends.
  • Any wallet: moving money out to your bank account makes that amount taxable at that point, whichever wallet it came from. Keeping funds in the wallet and spending on eligible categories is what preserves the tax benefit.

If you leave the company

Funds already credited to your wallet are part of your CTC, so your employer cannot unilaterally take them back. A pullback to the employer’s account can only happen if you explicitly consent over email. If a balance is paid out to your bank account, on exit or otherwise, it becomes taxable income at that point.

FAQs

You can’t. Wallet amounts are loaded by your employer through the Empuls admin portal. If your balance is low or zero, contact your HR or admin team.
The credit from your employer may not have processed yet. Use the refresh option on card home. If it persists, use Contact Support in the app or ask your HR team.
Yes for the grocery and food section, no for anything else. At swipe, the terminal’s category code is checked against your Meal wallet’s allow-list. A supermarket runs separate billing counters per category — groceries, home appliances, an in-store liquor counter — so your card is accepted at the grocery counter and declined at the others. Alcohol category codes are never on the Meal wallet’s allow-list, so those transactions are never approved, whatever the store.
Yes. Use it in-store at eligible merchants, and online using the card details under View Card Details. Remember that online and contactless payments are off by default — enable them in Card controls first.
From card home, tap your card, then Card details and View card details. Verify yourself with your device PIN, password or biometric, and the full number, CVV and expiry appear on the secure page.
Yes — ₹2,00,000. That is the RBI ceiling for a full-KYC prepaid instrument, and you cannot hold more than that at any point. Your day-to-day spending is limited by whatever your employer has loaded into each wallet.
No, only three are. Meal & Grocery (₹200 per meal), Fuel & Car running, and Gift (₹15,000 a year) come from specific tax rules with an explicit number. Every other wallet limit — Telecom, Books & Periodicals, Learning & Development and any custom wallet — is an amount your employer has chosen, so don’t assume it’s fixed if another organisation sets it differently.
Common reasons: the merchant’s category doesn’t match the wallet; the wallet balance is insufficient; the card is locked; you’ve exceeded a spend or transaction-count limit; the maximum wallet balance is reached; or the payment mode you’re using, such as e-commerce or contactless, is disabled. Check those, adjust your limits or modes in Card controls, or contact support.
Only you can request this — your employer cannot — and you do it from the Empuls app. Note that funds moved to a bank account leave the benefit framework and become taxable income at that point.
There is a one-time card issuance fee and a per-transaction surcharge plus GST that depends on the merchant and transaction value. Whether either is passed on to you is set by your employer’s policy and the merchant’s policy. There are no recurring or annual maintenance charges, and Empuls charges no convenience fee.
The card is intended for use within India for eligible purchases, and the card itself is marked valid only in India. Contact support for specifics on your card preferences and your organisation’s policy.
For Empuls platform, wallet or benefits-programme questions, use in-app support or raise a request through Contact Support. For card issuance, individual transactions, settlements, statements or KYC, contact Transcorp at cards@transcorpint.com or +91 75971 82222. If a grievance raised with the issuer is unresolved after 30 days, you can escalate it to the Reserve Bank of India under the Integrated Ombudsman Scheme.

Good to know

  • Spend within the wallet’s category. Each wallet is category-restricted; spending outside it is declined from that wallet.
  • Keep the tax benefit intact. Funds stay non-taxable while held in the wallet and spent on eligible categories.
  • You control the card. Lock, unlock, block, replace, set your PIN, manage limits and payment modes, and track spends — all from the Empuls app.
  • Tax-benefit balances are separate from your reward points and cannot be spent in the Empuls store.
  • Escalation path. If a grievance raised with the issuer remains unresolved for 30 days, you may escalate it to the Reserve Bank of India under the RBI Integrated Ombudsman Scheme.
Not tax advice. How a benefit is taxed depends on your tax regime, your CTC structure and the rules in force when you file. Empuls is a benefits-technology platform and does not provide tax, legal or financial advice. Speak to your HR or a tax adviser about your own situation.
