The Empuls homepage is the first screen every employee sees after signing in. Out of the box it shows a recommended feed plus quick links to the most-used features. The DIY homepage editor lets you replace or augment that default with your own layout — banners, announcements, leaderboard widgets, custom shortcuts — and target different templates to different audiences. Open it in your tenant at https://<your-empuls-url>/home/edit-homepage.

Before you start

  • You must be a Super Admin to create or publish homepage templates.
  • Templates target audiences using the same filter syntax as budgets — by department, location, grade, or business unit.
  • Test templates with a small group first; publishing to everyone immediately is hard to roll back gracefully.

Block library

The editor uses a block library. Each block is a self-contained widget you can drag onto the layout:
BlockWhat it shows
BannerFull-width hero image with optional link
Spotlight carouselRotating featured posts or programs
FeedEmbedded feed (Townhall, a specific group, or recommended)
LeaderboardTop performers from a chosen leaderboard
Wishboard previewToday’s birthdays and anniversaries
Quick linksCustom shortcut tiles
Reward points balanceEmployee’s current balance plus a Redeem CTA
Survey cardActive surveys awaiting response
Pending approvalsApproval queue for managers and admins
Custom HTMLFree-form HTML/Markdown block (Super Admin only)
Image gridCurated images linking to internal or external URLs
Drag a block from the right-hand library onto the canvas; resize and reorder freely.

Create a template

1

Open the DIY Homepage editor

Navigate to Admin Hub → Platform Settings → Edit Homepage, or open it directly.
2

Click New Template

Give the template a name (for example, “Sales team home”, “New joiner welcome”).
3

Pick a layout

Start from blank or fork an existing template. Layout grids range from 1-column to a 3-column with header/footer.
4

Drag blocks onto the canvas

Configure each block as you drop it. The block’s edit panel appears on the right.
5

Set audience

On the Audience tab, define who sees this template. Default is everyone; narrow by department, location, grade, business unit, or specific users.
6

Preview

Preview the template in employee mode. Switch to a target user’s profile to see exactly what they would see.
7

Publish

Click Publish. The template goes live for the matching audience immediately.

Audience targeting and precedence

Multiple templates can match the same employee. Empuls picks the most specific:
  1. Templates targeting specific users
  2. Templates targeting a single attribute (department, location, grade)
  3. Templates targeting multiple attributes (intersection)
  4. The default template (audience: everyone)
You can see which template applies to a specific user from the Audience tab — search the user and Empuls shows the resolved template.

DIY user list

The https://<your-empuls-url>/home/diy-user-list page shows every user and the template currently assigned to them. Use it to verify your audience filters are pulling the right employees before going live.

Edit a live template

Edits apply immediately on publish. Employees see the new layout on their next page load.

Limits and gotchas

  • The Custom HTML block has no preview before publish. Test in a draft on yourself first.
  • The Feed block always respects the user’s own feed permissions — a private group won’t show up for users not in it.
  • Templates targeting deleted entities (a department that was removed from org structure) fall through to the next-most-specific match.
  • Branding — Logos, colors, and brand customization that apply across templates.
  • Quick links — Personal shortcuts (employee-managed); a different feature from the Quick Links block in homepage templates.
  • Org structure — The entities that drive audience filters.
